Whilst Brooklyn’s finest may currently be the premier entrepreneur of the rap generation, he certainly wasn’t necessarily the original. RZA’s supergroup had the hip-hop culture covered long before Jigga was imploring us to "pledge our allegiance" in 'Run This Town.'

Established in 1984, many would argue that pioneering label Def Jam was the first true hip-hop brand. The Universal Music Group imprint is arguably just that, although it really did focus solely on the one aspect of the market. It wasn’t until 1992, however, that hip-hop witnessed the birth of the first superbrand.
